The first moments you have with a new yoni egg can be a little awkward, and it's easy to feel like you are fumbling blindly through your maiden voyage across the Yoni Sea. 

You're not alone. Follow these steps to gain a better understanding of the practice and your anatomy. 

1. MAKE IT SPECIAL 
This practice is for you. Make it count. What you put into the yoni egg practice is what you will get out of it. You get to decide your own level of involvement, set your own pace, blaze your own trail. Since this practice is about learning how to appreciate your sexuality and cultivate love, start off by setting the stage for a beautiful experience. Light a couple candles, thrown down a furry blanket, put on some sexy-time music. 

If this sounds cheesy or self-indulgent to you, then this step is specifically for you. You'd be surprised how awesome it feels to romance yourself. 

1. WASH IT OFF

Keggel's yoni eggs are already clean when they arrive, but cleaning the egg every time before you use it is important. Not only for the sake of hygiene, but also for the sake of ritual, and clearing any unwanted energy.

2. CHARGE  IT UP
Hold the egg in your hand and meditate. Steady your breathing. Imagine that every breath you take is filling your body with positive, loving, healing energy, and send all those good vibes straight to your egg. Focus your attention inward. 

3. SET YOUR INTENTION
Think about what you want to get out of your practice. For the first time, I would highly recommend that you imagine how you would like to feel at the end of your practice. Sexy? Powerful? Feisty? Energized? Beautiful? You decide. You get to create the entire experience yourself. 

4. INSERT THE EGG
Make sure that you have run a string through the hole in the egg for easy retrieval. Slide the egg inside you, with the larger end going in first. Push it past opening of the vagina, which is slightly smaller than the vaginal canal. You should be able to feel when it is in the correct place. Once you're PC muscles are in shape, this is where the egg will hang out quite comfortably if you decide to keep it in all day. 

5. KEGEL UP
Contract , or "kegel" around the egg using your PC muscle. (Kegel exercises consist of two motions. First, contracting your PC muscle, and second, releasing it. Your PC muscle is the same muscle that you use to stop the flow of urine.) When you contract around the egg, it should move upwards towards your cervix, and when you release the contraction, the egg should move back down to it's resting place right above the opening to the vagina. 

If this feels wacky, or makes you cringe, or if you can't tell if you are doing right, or if you can't feel anything at all, don't worry. You're not alone. On the whole, it seems that most women ignore their pelvic floor health until it becomes a problem. 

6. KEEP BREATHING
When you contract, inhale. When you release, exhale. If you find your mind wandering, just focus on breathing. 

7. HOLD ON TIGHT
You know when you are engaging the correct muscles when the egg moves up. To gauge this, hold on to the end of the string with your fingertips while the egg is inside you. Contract around the egg and notice if you are able to feel the string tugging upwards. Experiment with isolating different sets of muscles in your abdomen, legs, and pelvic floor to get a better understanding of your anatomy. 

8. TUG-O-WAR
Once you are sure that you are isolating the correct muscle groups, tug on the string with your fingertips as you contract your muscles. Pulling on the string will create added resistance, which will help you get stronger. It will also provide positive feedback, as the egg will be easier to feel during this exercise. 

9. JUDGE NOT
Seriously. Don't let your inner critic tell you that you are weak, damaged, or doomed. Accept where you are at, and allow that to be your natural starting point. If you can't feel the egg at all, then visualize it moving up as you contract. As you get stronger and increase blood flow to your pelvic floor, you will also be forging a mind/body connection, which will make you more sensitive, and eventually, more orgasmic.
