A recent study found that Americans spend nearly eleven hours a day staring at and interacting with a screen. Over four of these hours is watching TV. First of all, that is totally disgusting, and second of all, I am partially included in that group. Between running an on-line business and writing a novel, I find myself in front of the screen a lot. I’ve recently started to go on a media fast, which means no Netflix. When I watch TV, I can feel my brain turn off. It’s a limp sort of escapism that leaves me wondering why it feels that time is passing so quickly. Disconnect from your devices. Leave them at home to go for a walk to the local coffee shop. Talk to real, live people. Smile. Feel the sun on your face. Hell, kick off the shoes. We are conscious, advanced beings, but we are also still part wild, and that part of us needs expression as well.
