(With your senses, of course.)

The raisin meditation is a way to increase your sensitivity and awareness. Much like the yoni egg practice, this meditation asks you to place all of your focus on one solitary act, to engage your senses, and to hone your mind body connection.

To do this meditation, you’ll need a raisin, although any food will do. Raisins just happen to be a classic.

Hold the raisin in your hand, and examine it. Touch it with your fingers, turn it over. Explore it’s crevices and grooves, try to memorize it’s texture. Notice the way the light hits it, the variation of color.

When you put the raisin in your mouth, do the same, but with your tongue, with your sense of taste. Notice how the raisin tastes in different parts of your mouth, how different taste buds are activated. Allow yourself to notice how this once simple act can be intensely pleasurable when you focus all your attention on it.

Draw this out for as long as you can (it’s suggested that you do it for five minutes). This exercise is a great way to wake up your senses and sharpen your mind. The meal you have after you do this exercise may very well be the best you’ve ever tasted.
